Jake8773 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 John Mann is parting with his 79' PRS! I suppose for 100K I would as well. Still, I'd have a very hard time parting with that beauty. I'd love to see this on display in the Hall of Fame. https://reverb.com/item/320897-paul-reed-smith-santana-pre-production-1979-cherry-sunburst
cmatthes Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I'd sell my '89 for a LOT less! It's only 10 years younger than that one - I mean, c'mon!
Cary Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Sure, it's $100K, but FREE SHIPPING!!!! That'll save you a few bucks. Actually, if I were spending that on a guitar I don't think I'd trust it to UPS - I'd pick it up in person.
Carl.B Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 MehYou would think PRS would want that guitar if it's such a piece of there history. If PRS isn't going to spend the coin on it why would anyone else?
atquinn Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Looks hideous with those pickups Although that reminds me, when the hell is PRS going to come out with a DGT P90 model? - Austin
Sugartune Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 That's a lot of really nice playable Hamers for one guitar as opposed to a hanging display piece. I don't care for the look of the pickups either.Good point about PRS. Why not Santana himself?
cmatthes Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Paul was buying up a lot of the early guitars and pre-production pieces (1984 and before) about a decade ago. There is a nice collection of them either on display at the factory or at Paul's place that gets trotted out every now and then. There is also a few high-rolling Japanese collectors who have some pretty impressive early PRS stables. I have some really great books and Japanese-market photomags of a few that Tombo sent me years ago. Very cool stuff...
dhuber Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Totally not interested. No disrespect for John Man, but I agree. I'm not educated on PRS or early PRS guitar's but my gut say's anything over $10,000 is too much.
kizanski Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Totally not interested.Ditto. Couldn't care less.
coolfeel Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Totally not interested. Ditto. Couldn't care less. Maybe it's me but having dog ears on that guitar look hideous...
tbonesullivan Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 OMG FREE SHIPPING! I GOTTA GET IN ON THE DEAL!!!I do some day want to own a PRS, but the prices they go for these days are freakin ridiculous.
cmatthes Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 One of the earliest PRS guys.He designed the PRS Trem too.
cynic Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Pardon my ignorance, but who Is John Mann? He's a "made" Mann
Jake8773 Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Pardon my ignorance, but who Is John Mann? He's a "made" MannLOL...
Disturber Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Am I the only one who think that P90's with dog ears on that guitar looks all weird? For a 100 K it needs to be sent to Murkat for to:A ) be proberly routed for humbuckers, and get some creme pick up rings. Or...B ) get some normal P90s, no dog ears. A triple coil in the bridge could work to. Or, if nothing else works, just drill in a set of EMG's, perhaps even three EMG humbuckers. That will do the trick for sure!
tobereeno Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 for $100k you're not buying the guitar, but something else - a piece of history, whatever. like what if the first Rickenbacker went on sale? I'm pretty sure it plays and sounds like ass. and I feel pretty sure it would fetch a lot more than $100k.anyways for the right person, they will get their money's worth. for someone looking for the best damned guitar with mojo bleeding from every pore, there really is an upper limit on how much that would cost, and $10k sounds about right. maybe even less. I've personally scored mojo for $350....
devrock Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Sorry, but the only guitars that justify that kind of coin would be something Hendrix played or of similar ilk. Maybe worth 1/4 what he's asking. Even then, it's hideous.
Biz Prof Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Totally not interested. Ditto. Couldn't care less. Maybe it's me but having dog ears on that guitar look hideous... It's not you. They look awful.
LucSulla Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I know it is a piece of guitar history, and I am sure it is a wonderful players. But I have to agree with what others have said - that thing is ugly as hell. It's got a real, "Hey you guys!" cut to its jib. There is nothing... er, Slothful, about early Hamer Sunbursts, and you could buy a boat load of them for that.
