murkat

Question

Posted

Well, it has been awhile. Past year and winter have been Pretty rough for the old Murkat.

I will attempt to catch up here, what is going on, why the delays, what is in the works, etc.

Been dealing with the VA for almost 2 years now. I still have issues, soon to be resolved.

I am physically limited due to aging, worn out body parts, past injuries reemerging (VA).

Past winter, coldness, virtually shut down the shop. We just could not afford the heating bill

to maintain a decent temperature to actually work in.

Judy and I are legally married now. After knowing, being together for over 15 years, we tied the knot last December. Now I am on Her insurance, Fuck the VA.

TedBurst. Ted’s burst was badly twisted neck wise. Board is planned, last three inlays are replaced (real mop to match). The radius is goofy on these old Sunbursts. The best for the TEDburst is a 10” radius. I am waiting on a 10 radius press to snug them in.

Cynic’s Blitz. The Cynblitz’s headstock has a very bad break. Wood is glued and curing. Body will be stripped, headstock remade to a 4 digit, a few other things, prepped, and off to Stike for some paint mojo.

Kiz’z Standard. This thing has become a lovey prick. Missy communications have resulted in multiple do’s, redo’s, and this and that’s. Status is, what I have to figure out, re topping it again, around an already set neck binding with it looking all juvi, since the original veneer was laid on prior neck binding, frets. I might have to pull it all off to do it right. Yes, it is a 25.5 scale conversion.

I need to finish up on this Vee, a Baker neck I got from Serial many years ago.

Vinny from V paicks dropped this Vinntoroso off for routing. Mini hums and a trem.

Nathan’s Natezilla Vintage S all dolled up. I added a nice tight fit block off of oak since the original bridge, trem has seen better days. This VS sings even without the EQ.

Jay,

Congratulations to you and Judy, and I'm awfully sorry to hear of your troubles with the VA and other dogs.

It is great to see some NTL haps again, and I wish you and your family the very best.

Hopefully, things keep improving for you. Always great to see the projects you have cooking.

The flame on the VS is RIDICULOUS! :D

OOF! Sorry to hear that things have been so bad for you lately. Old injuries have an annoying issue becoming worse during the cold winter months. The contractor we used to have do work on our house had to move south because he would pretty much become disabled during colder months. He had a roof fall on him and break his upper back years ago, and it just keep getting worse.

Glad to hear that things are looking up, and congrats on getting hitched!

Congrats on the nuptials and thanks for the cool thread and the good advice you give here. Hope you're feeling better.

Congratulations Jay and all the best....To continue such a long story.

As always nice job and happy you can continue for the guitar player community benefits....

Yah, bringing a human to a dog fight is never a good idea!

Only time I've ever been bitten was breaking up my 2 lady

Dobermans who didn't like each other. I was lucky it was

the blue one that got me. If it had been the fawn, I'd probably

have lost my hand!

Congrats on making the Missus and "honest woman," as they say down south :)

Beautiful work, as always!

Hope you are feeling better as the weather warms up.

Kiz’z Standard. This thing has become a lovey prick.

And thus is a perfect reflection of its owner. Although I'm pretty sure Kiz was born a lovey prick.

Congrats on getting hitched. It's about time you were made to suffer like the rest of us. :P

And as always - amazing work! You do better work with a bum paw than most of us could with 4 good ones.

This posting is all kinda of great stuff. Pics of my first and sentimental favorite Hamer being brought back to playability leaves me giddy. I love that guitar and replacement of a volume with a coil split mini switch is a reversible mod I wholeheartedly recommend. I used that switch constantly.

Congrats on the common law and insurance fix.

This old thing ? ;)

Frets are pressed, glued in, and trimmed. still a ways to go.

Now leveled, board cleaned up, ends cleaned smooth, prepping for final polishing.

finish buffed out, yet retains all it's hard earned goodness thru the years of love and playing.

Frets, board, all polished up silky smooth as if it was like this for many moons. All put back together Like Ted had it prior to teardown.

The ole' baby still has the goods for many years to come.
