But blonde, bound and crowned fingerboard and vintage correct headstock are still what I'm planning. I just have this really sick idea for it to be a plain top with a near-perfect grain pattern. I think it would be unique.
Steve Haynie Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Rickenbacker made instruments with perfectly clear maple. No knots or flames in the grain could be found, and the grain was straight. Now that is less common. A truly plain top would have a unique beauty for people who appreciate wood like that. We like to see perfect straight grain spruce tops. However, a maple top that is added to a mahogany or korina slab ought to have a little "character" in it.
