  1. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/squier-paranormal-jazzmaster-xii-laurel-fingerboard-12-string-electric-guitar/l99927000002000 Weird though - ordered one and when I went back to the SDOD page it had changed to an MXR pedal. Curious, George. Anyway these things get mostly great reviews ('for the money') so we'll see. ETA: Now the link says they're $429?? WTF?

  2. That particular booth is one I avoid. He is not very…. Let’s say friendly . Prices and values are dropping and I think “optimistic” and “hopeful “ prices are what your going to see this year. At the Indy show last 2 years ago the dealers were saying the market has been as bad as when the economy collapsed. I think a lot of guys are just buying and holding. I know I want to liquidate down and put the money into one guitar that I will use and play. 63,64 SG Special or a DC Junior.

  4. I gotta believe that others practice this. There has to be others that have discovered this tactic. If not, I think I might be onto something. Here's how it works: Rather than purchasing new guitars, I take a couple from my current, existing collection and hide/put them away for about a year. Then, break one out again and it’ll be like having a new guitar without having to pay for it.😆 At least, that’s what I did with my Stevenson “Bass boat” Std. 24. I really struggled playing it for whatever reasons, a year ago- it felt like it was fighting me on a number of levels. (let's skip over the psychology; the mental gymnastics and borderline textbook delusion inherent in blaming one's instrument for shortcomings in their skill!) So, I decided to sell it. It went into hiding in the case and in the less used part of the basement. Then ads went up to sell but obviously, it never sold. This morning, I was in the guitar workshop area of the basement and looked at it and decided, WTF! Let’s get it out and have a go on it! Holy weasel wizz! It played and sounded hella better than it did a year ago. It was like having a new guitar. 😆

  5. Coil cables are very capacitive and kill top end... and they tug at everything as you move. So if you like a loss of high end and having your pedals follow your feet like puppies, go for it.

  6. I once played with Jimmy Thackeray and his strat had the space filled with *bowling ball* material 😳 He also had a 50s LP jr that he said never intonated right until he had the bridge studs hand drilled- freehand with no measuring - by Danny Gatton. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

  8. We are 7 days away from the Expo. I didn’t get a booth, but I’ll be making the rounds, with Travis in tow. If anyone is in the area, stop by and say hi! @Travis @RacerX @BadgerDave Anyone else that might in the area. Damn if I can remember the one person that I saw the last two times, and managed to not be able to track them down during the show. https://www.dejawuguitars.com/guitar-show-calendar/chicago-vintage-guitar-expo-wedp6

  9. UPDATE: We did the plane and refret. Still for sale, just updated price to to $999 plus shipping to account for the work: https://www.guitarmalfk.com/shop/c/p/Robin-Freedom-II-x95909696.htm Check out this Very Good+ condition Robin Freedom II bass in Robins Egg Blue?? (prob Surf Green). This one has had the works - new ElectroSocket output jack plate, HipShot triple string tree, new bone nut and a complete plane and refret as the neck was wavy-gravy unplayable when we first got it. We opted for a satin nitro finish on the neck versus a gloss. This appears to be an early import model (ESP-build) based on tilt neck, skunk stripe and that it originally had a two-string round string tree, but we can't pinpoint anything definitively. Original body finish, pickups, internal electronics - sounds HUGE and plays very, very good. The humbuckers are something else. Very articulate and punchy. Neck is clean as it gets, frets are perfect. Body shows some light wear - a few divots and dings - but is extremely clean considering this one is at least 30 years old. No case or gigbag, but will be packed accordingly if shipping. $999+shipping Original post: Heya! I know we've got some Robin fans here. I have a Very Good+ cosmetic condition Robin Freedom II bass in Robins Egg Blue?? (prob Surf Green) for sale. We bought it from a repair customer who just wanted out from under it after he saw the repair quote. That was after we had already put on a new ElectroSocket output jack plate, HipShot triple string tree and a new bone nut. So it does have that going for it! Looks great, sounds great, BUT - after a fret dress, we still couldn't get the buzz ironed out. Neck is a bit wavy-gravy and it will need plain and refret to play right. Anyways, our repair shop has gotten too busy to work this one in without sacrificing timelines on customer work, so we're looking to move it along to one of you fine folks! Customer indicated it was an early import model (ESP) based on tilt neck, skunk stripe and that it originally had a two-string round string tree, but I can't pinpoint anything definitively. $shipped/payment method of your choice. No case or gigbag, but will be packed accordingly. More pics available upon request.

  10. This show has become one of my favorites, and one of the main reasons is convenience. The Williamson County Ag Expo Park is the right size and it's conveniently located right by I-65 in south Franklin. Always cool to note how the dirt floor gets completely covered with canvas. This year my health issues are stabilized somewhat, so I'm planning on working the Vintage Guitar Magazine space. This will also be another book signing event for THUNDER OUT OF TEXAS: The Illustrated History of Robin Guitars. And this sojourn is also gonna include a family first: My daughter is coming with me. She's never been to a guitar show before, so now she's gonna find out what Dad's been doing all those weekends he's been gone over the last 36 years. Should be interesting. Watch for us; we'll probably be wearing day-glo "gimme caps"...

  11. Copy and paste from my SM feeds ... ------------------------------- Eleventh hour prep for Carondelet's presence at this coming weekend's annual Amigo Nashville guitar show, one of the biggest and best in America. Throwing together demo guitars today for some of our newest models plus a few prototypes. In the case of the latter, my favorite of the new demo axes ... a twisted tribute to both Jake's original "whitey" S style AND when it was a stock three-tone burst 1974 Fender Strat prior to being "Charvelized" in the early 1980s! The demo's bridge pickup is a "Holdsworth'ed" Carondelet Secret Sauce variant exactly like Jake currently uses in his main guitar. Even cooler, the overwound yet still "robintrowery" single coils are one-offs just for Jake that he'll receive after the show. Yep, the pickups destined for the man himself, Amigo Nashville patrons will get to test drive! Amigo Nashville starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 21-22, at the AgExpo Center in Franklin, about 20 minutes south of Music City USA. Scroll the gallery to see the show flyer with all attendee details. Carondelet will have a double booth filled with our wares and many of our Nashville market artists. Come make noise with us!

  13. Didn't something similar happen to Don Felder's custom Erlewine doubleneck? I recall him saying in an interview that the Eagles broke up around the time he received it, and when he opened it up 14 years later to get gear ready for Hell Freezes Over, the flight case foam had melted into the clearcoat.

  14. Barely used-a few rehearsals and one gig. It's got more than enough juice to power most boards. Original box, all the connectors that came with it, Pedaltrain mounting bracket and a voltage doubler cord. $150 shipped lower 48.

  15. Great to see Bubs and Travis today! Also ran into Curtis Meissner later in the show, and few other collectors/dealers I know from the old days. Dave- I missed ya somehow, maybe next time. I came home empty handed… my les paul Jr/special hunt continues.

  16. I experimented a few times, including once with a new instrument that I got for a particular writing project. Call it the home version of N.O.S. When I opened up the case about a year later, my jaw hit the floor---the translucent finish had rotted, for lack of a better description. Discolored and krinkled. There was a silica packet in the case. The guitar had to go back to the factory for a refin. Maybe, with some brands, it pays to open the case every few months and let it air out.

  20. I spoke to Phil a couple times. Very nice guy… and super cool that he formed a band with his kids. There is some really good stuff in that mid period Motörhead. Killed By Death, Dr Rock, Rock N Roll, Ramones… for all the noise. Lemmy could write… glad he got a few bucks for mama I’m comin home.

  21. I personally do not own any guitars with a micro tilt, simply because I do not like the idea of a gap... I do, however, have tons of guitars with shims and have noticed a HUGE difference between a small piece of a heel shim to a full size wooden wedge... to the point where I have replaced all my "shimmed" guitars with full sized "full contact" wedge... and believe it or not, "in time" those little shims will warp or bend the heel area of your neck... first photo is what I consider a shim vs a full wedge.

  22. It's a Korean SAT/Import - not a USA model. I had to laugh at the "Randy Rhoads" signature on a guitar that was built a couple of decades after he died...who knew he had a time machine?!

  23. @bubs_42 @Travis @RacerX If anyone in the Chicago area is interested. I can bring these to the Chicago Guitar Expo https://www.dejawuguitars.com/guitar-show-calendar/chicago-vintage-guitar-expo-wedp6 Willing to let these go for well below market prices for an in -person deal. The Anniversary is in near mint condition, 100% original with untouched wiring and perfect frets. As clean as a used black guitar can be. $1,200 w/ Hamer logo HSC The Artist Custom has DiMarzio DP309 PAF 57 pickups but otherwise original. It's in excellent condition with the OHSC. Priced at $2,500 Has some very slight binding seperation in the upper cutaway. It had Duncan Seth Lovers installed when I got it, not sure if these were original. I'll include these for an extra $100.00. I

  28. I got one too. Not that I needed one, but I have before, so it could happen again. 🤪 They also have their discontinued rack cases for some decent prices. If you're into that sort of thing.

  29. For what it's worth tuning stability isn't nearly as much of an issue on my guitars with a 14 degree angle, including a Les Paul. As far as I can tell, it makes fuckall difference with sustain as well. The partscaster I built doesn't have string trees because the neck is a roller nut neck off a Fender 40th Anniversary. I've gigged that guitar several times and ended up playing all night because I completely out of blind luck made a really good partscaster. It only struck me the other day that the strings run damn near straight from saddle to peg with just enough break angle that the nut does its job. Sustains just fine.

  30. Don't be confused. Lubing the string slots is just SOP. I use Burt's Bees lip balm or Lizard Spit Slick Nutz. "Takes the 'PING' Outta Yer String."

  32. You likely know this, but the SPC ("Strat Presence Control") and the 89 in full humbucker mode get into some not-too-good distortion. I had an 85 in my HSS Charvel back in the 80's and called (of course, no email) EMG about the distortion I was experiencing. They told me the SPC was designed to give the "singles" a more humbucker sound by manipulating certain frequencies. They did not recommend engaging it with their humbuckers. EMG Pickups / SPC / Electric Guitar Pickups, Bass Guitar Pickups, Acoustic Guitar Pickups I bought / installed the 85 just months before they came out with the 89. EMG were incredibly helpful in helping me use capacitors and resistors along with a modified five-way to produce a split sound in the 4 position. You didn't ask for all that, but I type it to point out they were absolutely incredible with support, especially given communication at the time was via toll long-distance phone calls and USPS. They mailed me schematics and followed up to get feedback on the results. Great people!

  33. this photo is from years ago. Picked it up a GC used for $450. It long gone. These had alder bodies and an added tone control, and most came with EMG pickups. Still have this one.

  34. Hello there, This is a Calfornian Deluxe (no need for Elite designation), if you search on that you'll find a few more - although they are scarce and the deluxe varients I would say are the most difficult to find. There were Californian, Centaura and Chaparral Deluxe models made. Here are some other links to other Cali Deluxes https://guitar-science.ru/store/guitars/hamer-californian-deluxe/ https://reverb.com/uk/item/12951696-hamer-californian-deluxe-custom-order-1994 Heres a tone test of three main Cali variants Here is one for sale today currently on reverb in Belgium. https://reverb.com/uk/item/91156250-hamer-californian-usa-1991-natural-oil?bk= You probably already know from the brochure that you have an EMG89 in the bridge position, and and SA in the neck position, pull pot on the volume to change the 89 mode to SC from full HB. The second control is an EMG SPC control - which adds midrange and I find usefulk My favourite guitar happens to be a Centaura Deluxe.

  38. I was in and out pretty quickly. Nothing really caught my eye. Lots of well worn Gibsons and Fenders at very optimistic prices. I was mildly interested in finding a 70's LP Deluxe at a reasonable price and weight. No luck. I saw one deluxe. The rare red sparkle finish but very faded and overall in poor condition. Asking $22,500.00! 😳
