cmatthes Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 Folks: I just heard that Charlie lost his battle earlier this week. Many of us remember meeting him at various Hamer Open Houses, local get-togethers and jams. Solid guy, despite his affinity for Telecasters… He will truly be missed by those who knew him, and we’re somehow all better people for it. Charlie’s wife MaryAnn posted this earlier today, so sharing it here: Friends - this is Charlie’s wife MaryAnn. I wanted to share the news that Charlie’s cancer had spread quite aggressively in the past few weeks and he passed quietly at home very early Wednesday morning. He was holding my hand and Jonathan and Corinne and his dogs were all nearby. He was able to spend the last month saying goodbye to family and friends and his final decline was very quick and under the care of Hospice so he could be at home and comfortable. I’m so grateful for all of that. We are all at peace. Arrangements are still being finalized, but I will post those later today. Please honor Charlie today by giving your loved ones (including your pets 😊) a big hug today.
Steve Haynie Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 It always feel weird to lose someone we know mostly through an online presence. I am glad ceeb got to tell us goodbye himself.
hamerhead Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 What Steve said. It is extremely sad. R.I.P. Charlie.
Dutchman Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Didn't get the opportunity to meet Ceeb, he loved guitars and he loved Hamers, I think we would of got along splendidly! RIP Charlie.
mrjamiam Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 My condolences to his family and friends, which includes HFC folks. RIP.
0054 Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 CT and the HFC have lost a good guy. Cancer sux.
noisy neighbor Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 I am but a newbie here, but when we lose one of the fold; I, like many, am reminded of my own mortality. Rest in peace, Ceeb. Will play a while on my Special in your honor. -Rich
BruceM Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 This is very sad news, but thanks for sharing. It's eerie to watch this list grow over the years. Life is relentless. RIP, Ceeb, and peace to your family and friends.
DaveH Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Sorry to hear, I really thought he had more time left than this... You just never know. Thoughts and prayers to his wife and family. I know she said they are all at peace, but when the whirlwind they have been in this past week dies down and they are alone to remember and ponder, is when the sadness can set in. I can't imagine losing a spouse.
ArnieZ Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Knew this was happening, but didn’t expect it so soon. Despite having met Ceeb in person, he was really an HFC friend. He was warm and a gracious host. Probably hosted the 2nd most jams after Bruce giving many of us a chance to play and meet in person. Very sad, I’m glad he ultimately passed on his own terms,at home with his loved ones! RIP arniez
Travis Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Ugh…. Hate hearing this news. I’m glad, though that he got to say goodbye to his loved ones and he was holding his wife’s hand at the end. My dad went suddenly and unexpectedly. I would rather go out with the closure that ceeb had. We’ll jam in the next life…. Godspeed… 😢
DEMENTED Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 So I got this news Friday and it was a shocker...I met Charlie here on the HFC and we found out we were "neighbors" since we live about 20 mins away from each other. That began a friendship that showed me what a kind, generous guy Charlie was...we attended the HFC open houses at Hamer together and he drove us out when I went there to pick out woods for my custom built Standard. I'll always remember the fun had by all at the HFC jams he hosted at his place, which allowed Hamer fans in the Northeast to meet in person. Always gracious and glad to help, you'll be missed "CEEB".
HAMERMAN Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 So sad. When he posted about how bad things were I think we all hoped that he was readying himself for the worst but holding out hope that the end wasn't as near as he feared. As sudden as it was I am glad to hear that he was able to say goodbye to everybody and be with his loved ones at the end - it's easy to forget how not that long ago Covid could have potentially screwed up even that small comfort. Like stated above cancer really does suck.
