  1. After tons of hours and thousands of co-pilot messages (amazing really) to figure out the new host created a broken VPS. The site should be back and better than ever. Beat it up and let me know what you find. That said. IPB message board we use has become bloated and is bugging me to constantly buy updates and move to their cloud services. It's to the point that I am ready to jump to another forum product. I am not planning on doing it this week. But likely in the future. If you are interested check out xenforo, its lighter weight, has a very similar feature set and much more appealing licensing. Thanks all for your patience. I appreciate every member of the first and best damn guitar forum on the internet for over 30 years your friend Ted Martin For those that have no clue what I am referring to see the back story here:

  2. Hi Folks, First off this is not a plea for money, I appreciate all the support that people send, and I plan to keep the HFC going until it doesnt makes sense. Feel free to read as much or as little of this as you like but I wanted to be transparent on whats going on. As many of you may be aware we have been struggling over recent months. Our hosting company was sold last year and things continual are getting worse. The service being the most obvious as you may have noticed frequent 503 errors due to them reducing the amount of resources available. They have also increased our hosting prices by over 300%. furthermore, the plan we are on no longer works for us due to the resource demands from the board and the only option for staying is Virtal Private Server which cost exponentially more than of a traditional shared hosting account or offloading the board to invision cloud hosting but that alone is over $1000 per year and I dont want to lose the other pages. This really maked me miss the old days when I hosted the HFC on a throw away 386 running linux and apache in the basement of my inlaws office. Anyway, over the last few months I have been trying to find a situation that was reasonably affordable. I am planning to move hosts and am close to narrowing down my choice. The initial costs are reasonable as they give you a deal for a year then increase your monthly the next year. One of the issues is the size of the database as I have been retaining ALL posts from when we first moved to invision 20 years ago. I like the idea of having them available to search and revisit. However, I might need to drop quite a few or them. If I do, I will keep a copy and maybe bring it back up under an archive site. We'll see. I am working on keeping the recent stuff going first. What you need to know is this migration is going to happen soon, likely in the next two weeks. The site may be down or unavailable for a while as I migrate data. maybe days but I am hoping to avoid that. Please give me some grace on that as I do have a real job as well which has been very heavy. Lastly, I want to thank each and every one of you for being here. YOU are the HFC not that site and I am going to do my best to keep this clubhouse going as long as I can. your friend Ted Martin

  3. I found this thread on mylespaul.com discussing just this "terribad" schematic. The poster came up with a much better schematic after reverse engineering another footswitch. This is what he came up with: Hope this helps.

  5. This is all I have for now. The guitar is in storage and I'm going to get it out about a day or two before the show. The back is mahogany (of course) and the sunburst on the back matches the front. Will Boggs GregWinds with taps. I don't have the original pickups.

  6. For those that arent aware, we are moving hosts. read the thread below for details. To make that happen I need to freeze the database for the messageboard to migrate the data. Its massive 2+ gigs and will take a while to export, migrate and test. If all goes well, knock wood, we should be back up, id say within hours but its gonna take a long as its going to take considering the snags I have run into so far. Hopefully not a day or more. We should come back online in the same board you are used to. HOWEVER, IPB is getting aggressive about licensing and moving people to their hosted solution so I am looking at forum options. The front runner is xenforo, its similar but a bit less bloated and much better licensing set up for self hosted. Just a heads up thanks for the understanding

  7. Good News! I have a reasonable host and am in the process of setting things up. Fingers crossed it goes well. I'll keep you posted. So far, its been a grind, but so good. Cant wait to ditch this crappy host

  8. Thanks for EVERYTHING you do behind the scenes and right out in the open here for the HFC! I can’t believe that I’ve been on this board for close to half my life, but it’s all because of you taking the plunge and making it happen. I think most of us here have made great friends, bandmates and even adopted siblings. It truly is (and has always been) the best hangout on the dubayew dubayew dubayew. You rock, Ted!

  9. Relisted without headstock photos: https://reverb.com/item/96828066-gvcg-s-style-2026-olympic-white I've been lazy and I'm using the pics from when it sold to the person I bought it from last month. I mention trades, but I much much prefer selling and just offer it if anyone has been dying to pick these up for years but doesn't have the spare cash. I've bought a Baker B3 Wood, this, an Anderson, a Valkenburg dh, and a PRS Custom 22 in the last few weeks. I'll likely list all and aim to sell two and keep whatever people don't pick up. This '65 Olympic White S model marks the return of Greenwich Village Custom Guitars. Jonathan Wilson spent the last decade producing records for Father John Misty and Jackson Browne or touring as lead guitarist for Roger Waters. This is the first new GVCG S model he has offered in ten years. The build starts with a lightweight Alder body that brings the total weight to 7 lbs 6 oz. It is finished in 100% nitrocellulose lacquer with light aging and subtle checking throughout. The neck is a gorgeous dark Rosewood on Maple with a vintage C profile, 7.25” radius, and vintage spec frets. Inside, the guitar features a set of 2006 Abigail Ybarra hand-wound pickups. The electronics include a vintage tone cap, CTS pots, and a CRL 5-way switch. It comes equipped with a vintage style tremolo and ships in an Orange Lined Reissue case.

  14. ... at least at my home: Recently I discovered this beautiful neon sign (not LED!). I suspect that it is from the 80s or 90s. I even had to buy a step-down transformer to be able to use it. Amazing that it survived all these years unharmed. With more than 40 Hamer guitars in my collection, it seemed to me to be the cherry on top. I hope you like it too.

  15. Mr @cmatthes made me aware of this post on Instagram. A Gibson Hamer Standard copy from The Music Zoo. Appart from that the price probably is one zillion dollars, what is your thoughts on this? https://www.instagram.com/p/DXzU6dPGYdI/?img_index=1

  16. I’ve demoed the standard, dreadnaught Rainsong. It had full electronics (UST/mic) and a cutaway. It sounded nice, and the electric sound was acceptable. The upsides of graphite may be worth looking into. Stable and impervious to seasonal climates. Durable/roadworthy. If you find one that sounds great, you’re set. Downside is it won’t improve with age, and will sound as good as the day you purchased. Come to think of it, that may be an upside for some.

  18. I thought the “LEDs” might be relays, now it makes sense. The 20V and 1K resistors means around 20mA per LED.

  19. Visited a local pawn shop a few years back and saw a Flame Top Les Paul Custom. it took about two seconds to realize it was a Chibson. I think there was asking $2k for it. I told them you know that not a real Gibson. They kept it at the price for another month or so then knocked the price way down. The finish and case were all wrong. It even has the three screws in the truss rod cover. The Gold on the hardware was off as well. Ya never know these days. Buyer beware.

  20. I'll be moving down to Florida here in several months, both our kids live down there now and they love it. I have been retired for many years now and soon my wife will be as well. I can't wait to see the guitar shows as well as the car shows as they are on a level not seen around here in Minnesota. I won't miss the snow.

  21. Wonderful! And now illuminating 40 Hamers at home. Amazing!! I'd love to see some of them,i.e. the nicest ones from the 70s and 80s. Or did You write a list?

  23. They are in the US. I wrote it on the titles of the ads. My “shop” says it’s located in Canada, because I registered my account there many years ago, and they wouldn’t change the country. I would have to create a new account in the US, but in that case I would have no reviews, no history, no nothing. 😬 But in short, they are both located in the US —in Florida, zip code 33327

  27. A total knucklehead got banned from here for trying to pass one of those off as the real thing when he 100% knew better. That was the last straw after he had proven himself to be a bit of a scammer and just overall weirdness.

  29. OK, let’s do this: I’m selling my Hamer USA Standard Custom, built in 2007. It’s in pristine condition, complete with the original hardshell case, COA, and case candy. You guys know what these things are, so, I’ll spare you the blah-blah. Yet, worth mentioning it’s transparent red and features a highly figured flame maple top and matching headstock veneer. IMPORTANT: The pickups are Seymour Duncan JB & 59, but aren’t the ones that came originally with the guitar —I never had those. These pups do sound amazing though, you know this combo is a safe bet. Now the price: 7,500 USD, shipped in the continental US —firm. Thanks for watching!

  31. Hi folks! It's been years since I posted anything here but I figured you could like this: https://cartervintage.com/shop/hamer-rick-nielsen-signature-futura-limited-edition-1998-vintage-korina/3CipqlZk0MWW02PJU1T1Je1kmUL Price is 5000 Dollars, I don't know if it's a good price (would be in Europe, I guess ; )

  33. I saw a Tony Iommi SG being offered at a guitar show here several weeks back, the asking price was the clear giveaway before anything else that it was not what it appeared to be. One guy had his money out ready to buy until someone fortunately told him it was not the real thing.......................unfortunately it was not the seller. If it's too good to be true it probably is just that. I have to eat my own words here also....................I bought an "ALL original" 1969 Fender Stratocaster. Back in the day I thought it was a great deal, and I paid some good $$$$ for it. Turns out it wasn't either a good deal or all original, still like your Grohl I liked the guitar just for what it was...........or what it wasn't as it played and sound great and I kept it for many years.

  35. I second that. Hard to believe it’s been nearly thirty years! I’ve made some lifelong friends here (as well as a couple of enemies LOL), and it’s been a blast! In fact, Chris and Steve Matthes were a couple of the earliest members I got to know, I think. Good times!

  37. Looks like the bottom of a Floyd Rose bridge saddle. Those can fall out. Remove the string lock block, put the shim back in, put the lock block back in, and you should be fine. I've had some that just won't stay on, so i replaced the saddle.

  42. What case does the first Steve Stevens model use, like a Les Paul style? Is there a specific TKL model? Mine came with a 3rd party case that has seen better days. Any other ones folks like and fit well?

  43. I just checked: my 87 SS1 custom fits perfectly in: early 80s Special case, late 2000s Studio custom case, and regular Gibson Les Paul case. The SS2 and SS0 (proto) do not fit in these cases, which is why mine are forced to live in soft cases.
